Before you begin:
- You MUST have access to the registrat email contact address. (This is where the domain transfer verification email is sent, and it MUST be answered to approve the transfer.)
- WHOIS protection must be turned off. (WHOIS protection would hide the registrat email contact.)
- Confirm the domain is older than 60 days old, as domains less than 60 days old cannot be transferred. (Domains transferred to another registrar within the last 60 days will also be ineligible for transfer until the end of the 60 day period.)
- Confirm that the domain is no more than 30 days past the expiration date.
This is important because at around 30 days, domains begin to go into redemption. Once in redemption, the domain MUST be renewed at the previous registrar to be transferable. Domains in redemption can not be transferred. - Unlock the domain. The domain must show an “Ok” status when queried via WHOIS.
- Update Name Servers prior to transfer – This is not required, but it is important to note that you will NOT be able to modify the DNS mid-transfer. You would need to wait until it is either successfully transferred, or fails.
- Copy down all your DNS settings from your old provider before you begin the transfer - this is just in case something goes wrong and they must be setup again.
- Retrieve the EPP Authorization key from the current registrar. (Note that some ITLDs do not require an EPP key - this is explained further down)
Step 1:
Check the "Before you begin" (above) Checklist and confirm you understand it all - if you dont, please open a support ticket first. Please make sure you have your EPP code if your Domain Requires one.
Step 2:
If you already have a HostLinc account:
- Login to your account and select Services (Top menu bar) > Order New Services
- Select "Transfer in a Domain" from the left hand side (towards the bottom)
- Type in your Domain Name into the "Domain Name" top box.
- If your domain requires an EPP/Auth Code (like .com's), type it in; if it doesnt just leave this box blank (like .co.uk's) - click "Add to Cart".
- Select the services you wish to add to the domain (we recommend you select the "DNS Management" as a minium - its free after all).
- Confirm your Name Server are set to the correct values (if your hosting is already with HostLinc, this should be populated with the correct details already).
- Click Continue
- Checkout and pay for the domain.
If you do not have a HostLinc account:
- On the main HostLinc Website, select "Store" > "Transfer Domain to us"
- Type in your Domain Name into the "Domain Name" top box.
- If your domain requires an EPP/Auth Code (like .com's), type it in; if it doesnt just leave this box blank (like .co.uk's) - click "Add to Cart".
- Select the services you wish to add to the domain (we recommend you select the "DNS Management" as a minium - its free after all).
- Confirm your Name Server are set to the correct values (if your hosting is already with HostLinc, this should be populated with the correct details already).
- Click Continue
- Signup, Checkout and pay for the domain.
Step 3:
If your domain does not require an EPP/Auth Code - It will have an "IPS Tag" which you must now update.
Login to your old provider, select the option for "Change IPS Tag" (This may be worded slightly different to your provider).
Once you have found this option, change the IPS tag to PDR-IN
This is HostLincs domain provider, and this will tell us you are ready to transfer the domain
Step 4:
Wait for your domain to transfer, if you dont see your domain as "Active" in HostLinc within 24 hours, please open a support ticket so we can check whats going on for you.
